Our Story
Environmental risk rarely arrives at a convenient time. It appears during due diligence, planning, demolition, excavation or recovery, when the project team needs a clear answer and the program cannot wait. A historical land use raises questions about contamination. Earthworks uncover material nobody expected. Demolition brings asbestos and other hazardous materials into the same conversation as soil, waste and worker exposure.
Confluence Environmental was established in 2025 because technically correct advice is only useful when people can act on it. Founder and Managing Director Josh Spalding had seen environmental reports create delay and confusion when they did not connect findings to the decisions project teams were responsible for making. He kept the technical standard and changed how the advice connects to the project: assess the actual constraint, bring related risks together and explain the pathway in clear terms.
That approach draws on contaminated land, asbestos and hazardous materials, and occupational hygiene experience in one team. It matters most where demolition, excavation, spoil movement, reuse, exposure and clearance overlap. Clients deal directly with the people assessing the site and preparing the advice, and our reports are written to work in two places: under council, auditor and certified review, and in the hands of the team delivering the project.

WHAT WE OFFER
The value shows in the work. At Uungula Wind Farm, we supported the principal contractor with a naturally occurring asbestos management plan, more than 1,300 samples, air monitoring and clearance, with a pathway to NSW EPA-accredited site auditor review. On a Hunter Valley substation upgrade, a targeted assessment closed gaps from an earlier investigation and showed localised impacts could be managed through construction controls, so planned earthworks could proceed. After the Koolewong bushfires, friable asbestos on access roads was assessed, monitored and cleared, with the roads safely reopened within 48 hours of engagement.
Today, Confluence supports development, construction, infrastructure and government projects across Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and regional NSW. As the projects have grown, so has the team and the range of work. Groundwater and surface water assessment, waste classification and material reuse, environmental management and incident response now sit alongside our core contaminated land and hazardous materials work. We are a proud partner of the Australasian Land & Groundwater Association (ALGA).
