Asbestos Clearance Inspections Newcastle
What Is an Asbestos Clearance Inspection?
An asbestos clearance inspection is a mandatory step after asbestos removal, ensuring the area is safe to reoccupy. Conducted by a qualified licensed asbestos assessor or asbestos hygienist, it provides assurance that all asbestos-containing materials have been removed to the required standard.
We conduct:
A detailed visual inspection of the removal area
Assessment of all surfaces, fixtures, and surroundings
Air monitoring where required
A formal Asbestos Clearance Certificate issued by a Licensed Asbestos Assessor
When Are Clearance Inspections Required?
Clearance inspections are required for:
Friable asbestos removal (mandatory by law)
Many bonded asbestos removal jobs, especially in workplaces or public buildings
Projects where council, WHS, or SafeWork NSW regulators request independent certification
What You’ll Receive
Site visit by a SafeWork NSW Licensed Asbestos Assessor
Visual inspection report confirming the area is free of visible asbestos
An official Asbestos Clearance Certificate for WHS and SafeWork NSW compliance
Optional: Air Monitoring and NATA-accredited lab results if required
Friendly advice from an occupational hygienist on next steps (labelling, asbestos management plans, or reinspection)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: When is an asbestos clearance inspection required?
A clearance inspection is required following the completion of licensed asbestos removal (friable/Class A and most licensed Class B jobs). It can also be performed after any asbestos removal to verify the area is safe to reoccupy—especially in workplaces, public sites, schools and government facilities—before works resume.
Q: Should I book before or after removal?
Book it in advance so we can attend immediately after removal and final clean. We coordinate with your removalist/builder so the Licensed Asbestos Assessor can inspect as soon as the area is ready.
Q: How fast will I get my asbestos clearance certificate?
Same day. We issue the asbestos clearance certificate the same day the inspection passes. The only exception is where static air monitoring is required and we must wait for results; in that case the certificate is issued as soon as results are received (typically same day).
Q: Who is qualified to perform the inspection?
A Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA). At Confluence Environmental, clearances are undertaken by a SafeWork NSW LAA, supported by an asbestos hygienist / occupational hygienist for technical oversight where needed.
Q: Do you provide air monitoring as part of the clearance?
Yes—static air monitoring can be included where required by WHS regulation, your scope, or for added assurance. Results are reported via a NATA-accredited laboratory.
Q: What does the clearance inspection include?
Detailed visual inspection of the removal area and surrounds
Verification of waste removal and cleanliness to clearance criteria
(If specified) static air monitoring with NATA-accredited results
A signed Asbestos Clearance Certificate issued by our Licensed Asbestos Assessor
Q: What happens if the area doesn’t pass first time?
We provide a clear punch-list of issues for the removalist to rectify (e.g., additional clean). We then re-inspect the same day wherever possible to keep your project moving.
Q: Do you perform asbestos removal?
No. We’re independent—we don’t remove asbestos—so your clearance inspection is unbiased and fully compliant.
Q: Who uses this service?
Homeowners, licensed removalists, builders/demolition contractors, strata/property managers, schools and government facilities—anyone needing an independent asbestos clearance inspection and certificate in Newcastle and the Hunter.
