Asbestos Removal, Testing & Inspections
Central Coast
Independent Asbestos Consultants - Gosford to Lake Munmorah.
Do you need asbestos removed, tested or inspected at a Central Coast property? Confluence Environmental provides asbestos testing, asbestos surveys, inspections, removal scopes and clearance certificates across Gosford, Wyong, Woy Woy, Terrigal, The Entrance and the wider Central Coast.
Our licensed asbestos assessors, auditors and hygienists deliver WHS-compliant asbestos inspection reports backed by NATA-accredited asbestos testing. Whether you've found suspect fibro during a renovation, uncovered asbestos in soil on an older Coast block, or need a removal scope before engaging a licensed removalist, we give you clear documentation and independent advice.
Our Morisset office is twenty minutes from the northern Central Coast — we're local, not a Sydney firm with a Central Coast page.
Why Asbestos Is Still a Major Issue on the Central Coast
The Central Coast was built out as a holiday and retirement region through the 1950s, 60s and 70s — the peak decades for asbestos cement construction. That legacy is still in place today:
Thousands of fibro homes and beach shacks across Woy Woy, The Entrance, Toukley, Budgewoi and Norah Head.
Coastal salt air accelerates the breakdown of asbestos cement, particularly roof sheeting.
Renovated homes often retain original asbestos sheeting hidden behind newer cladding, tiles and wall linings.
Broken fibro was routinely buried on site through the 70s, 80s and 90s, leaving asbestos in soil on many older blocks.
When You May Need an Asbestos Inspection or Removal Scope
You may require asbestos testing, an asbestos inspection or a removal scope if:
You've found suspect fibro, sheeting or debris during renovation or demolition.
Your Central Coast property was built before 2004 and is used as a workplace.
You're planning renovation, demolition or excavation works.
Asbestos is suspected in soil, dust or damaged building materials.
There has been a potential asbestos exposure incident.
Council, SafeWork NSW, a certifier or a purchaser has requested an asbestos inspection report.
You've received asbestos removal quotes and want them independently reviewed.
A professional asbestos inspection records the location, type and condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), ensuring you can:
Comply with NSW WHS Regulations and Central Coast Council requirements.
Confirm what is actually asbestos before paying to have it removed.
Compare removal quotes against a single defined scope of works.
Protect workers, contractors and occupants from asbestos exposure.
Obtain a clearance certificate that satisfies SafeWork NSW.

Asbestos Removal on the Central Coast: What You Need to Know
The 10 square metre rule. In NSW you may remove up to 10m² of non-friable asbestos without a licence, provided you follow the SafeWork NSW Code of Practice and complete asbestos awareness training. Friable asbestos must always be removed by a licensed removalist, regardless of quantity.
Friable clearance must be independent. For friable asbestos removal, the clearance certificate must be issued by a licensed asbestos assessor who did not carry out the work and is not part of the business that did. Your removalist cannot sign off their own friable job.
Disposal is restricted to two Central Coast facilities. Asbestos waste can only be taken to the Buttonderry Waste Management Facility at Jilliby or the Woy Woy Waste Management Facility.
WasteLocate applies to most jobs. Loads over 100kg, or more than 10m² of asbestos sheeting, require a consignment number generated through the NSW EPA WasteLocate system before the waste is moved.
Test before you remove. Testing costs a fraction of removal — and regularly confirms that suspect material is modern fibre cement, cancelling the job entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do you remove asbestos on the Central Coast?
No — we're an independent environmental consultancy, not a removalist. We test, inspect, write the removal scope, review quotes and issue clearance certificates, then refer you to licensed removalists appropriate to the job. For friable asbestos, NSW law requires the clearance to come from an assessor independent of the removalist.
How much does asbestos testing cost on the Central Coast?
From $150 for a single sample with NATA-accredited analysis and a written result. Per-sample rates reduce as sample numbers increase. Full surveys are quoted on building size and complexity.
How fast can I get a result?
Same-day and next-day laboratory turnaround is available. Tell us your deadline when you call.
Can I remove asbestos myself on the Central Coast?
You may remove up to 10m² of non-friable asbestos without a licence in NSW if you follow the SafeWork NSW Code of Practice and complete asbestos awareness training. Friable asbestos always requires a licensed removalist. Disposal must go to Buttonderry or Woy Woy, and loads over 100kg or 10m² of sheeting require a WasteLocate consignment number.
Do I need an asbestos clearance certificate?
For friable removal, yes — issued by an independent licensed asbestos assessor. For non-friable removal, by an independent competent person or licensed assessor. Even when not strictly required, it's the document you'll want for sale, insurance, lease or handover.
I think there's asbestos buried in my yard.
That's contaminated land rather than a building removal job — assessed, quantified and priced differently. It's core work for us and very common on older Central Coast blocks.
Can you review asbestos removal quotes I've already received?
Yes. This is one of the most valuable things we do. We assess whether the scope is complete, whether the classification is correct, and whether the price is reasonable for the work described.
